- This list recognizes titles that exemplify good literary quality combined with young adult appeal. A committee of the ALA's Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) receives nominations from readers, librarians, and publishers. This committee then selects a variety of titles, ranging from genre fiction to world history for the Best Books list. In 2011 this list became the YALSA Best Fiction for Young Adults and the YALSA Award for Excellence in Nonfiction for Young Adults
