A region with rural roots, it is now home to some of the nation's largest corporations, but it has managed to hold onto its Southern identity. Students will explore the region's history, its backwater bayous, and its many bustling cities. In addition, students will write about the Republic of Texas and learn how to make traditional corn spoonbread. A full-spread map will serve as a reference for learning state capitals, as well as highlighting some of the landmarks and sights that give the region its special cultural flavor
