Summary
This private journal offer's a first-hand account of Germany during the Second World War. William L. Shirer was the only Western correspondent in Vienna when it fell into Nazi hands, in 1938 and when France surrendered to the Germans in 1940. During these times and throughout the war, Shirer kept a diary, the contents of which make up this poignant overview of Germany's rise and fall under the Third Reich
